Optical Illusions

The first illusion in this collection of optical illusions is the most amazing illusion I’ve ever witnessed.

E-Z CSS lists

Ever wanted to be a L337 CSS coder? Check out the List-O-Matic, which will generate an HTML list (using good ol’ <ul> and <li> tags) and the appropriate CSS to display them horizontally or vertically, color-change mousehovers, tooltips. With 10 different styles to choose from, your webpage can now be wicked cool and pass W3C validation. That’s good stuff.

From The Register-Guard, Eugene, Oregon (third story down):

Man crashes his car after bee flies in mouth

DAYS CREEK – A Winston man told police he crashed his car after a bee flew into his mouth while he was singing along with the song “Rock Your Body” by Justin Timberlake on the radio.

Don’t you wish all reporters offered up extraneous information like this?

West Side Boring

My wife and I tried to watch West Side Story last night in our ongoing attempt to watch older Oscar-winning movies, and we couldn’t finish it. Of course, the major problem with it to us was that it’s a musical — maybe it was entertaining to see gang members dancing around 50 years ago, but today it comes off as fruity. The “love at first sight” storyline also made us gag. We’ve sat through some pretty awful Hong Kong comedies before, but this was the first movie we couldn’t bear to finish watching.

Actually, that’s not true. Hong couldn’t bear to finish watching Koyaanisqatsi and I couldn’t sit through The Hours, but West Side Story was the first movie that we both couldn’t watch.

Is John Edwards a Futurama fan?

On stumbling across Presidential candidate John Edwards’ blog (which runs on Slash (?!?)), I peeked at the HTTP headers for the site, and found something quite uncanny for a Presidential candidate: Futurama quotes. It returns a different one on each reload. Examples:

  • X-Fry: Nowadays people aren’t interested in art that’s not tattooed on fat guys.
  • X-Fry: But this is HDTV. It’s got better resolution than the real world.
  • X-Bender: Bender’s a genius!

Update: Further inspection seems to imply that this is just a feature of Slash. Slashdot does the same thing.
