If you’re a reader of NTKnow, you’ve seen what they’ve labeled as “Puerile Google Misspellings”: find embarrassing and ironic misspellings on websites, uncovered thanks to our favorite search engine. These are just too funny not to pass along. Here’s a few of the more recent ones:

Also related to that last one is a choice Ebay search of the word bowel, which shows some amazingly unfortunate yet amusing typos.

Mo’ ‘Zillas

It’s too bad that this FireWire port expander doesn’t come in a USB model; I have no FireWire devices for my computer but I have plenty of USB ones. I also hope the lawyers for Godzilla don’t contact the company in the same way they contacted DaveZilla.

The “switch” Apple doesn’t want you to hear about

Back in June, I said that I’d try to stick with Mac OS X for a while, using version 10.1. Since then, Mac OS 10.2 (”Jaguar”) has come out, along with a $129 price tag. I was discovering that there were many improvements to this new version that I couldn’t get without shelling out $129. Mind you, I just spent more than $100 earlier this year to get a copy of OS X, and I wasn’t about to spend more money for what is essentially a minor upgrade. So I did what any other person would do in my shoes.

I’m switching back to Linux.

It’s surreal to see that a former college-roommate of mine has become a famous music video director.

Linux on CD

I recently got a copy of the Knoppix GNU/Linux distribution, which is basically a complete Linux setup you can run directly from a CD — no hard drive installation necessary! I’m thinking of either keeping it for myself to use on Hong’s laptop (it’s a work laptop loaded with Windows 2000, and probably wouldn’t be a good idea if I repartitioned it) or send it to my mom so she can try Linux without having to go through the process on installing it.

Now that the text of this O’Reilly book has been made available on-line, I must definitely sit down and read through it someday. Maybe I’ll even buy the book if I like it enough.

Chinese Moon Festival

Also made it downtown for the annual Chinese Moon Festival, also known as the Autumn Festival. We all got paper lanterns with candles inside and walked across the bridge spanning the White River. A full moon was out to light our path. Of course, the festival we attended compared to what you might actually do in China is like playing with sparklers in your backyard instead of watching the fireworks display downtown…it’s just not quite the same (or so I hear.)

The pictures are quite blurry because I took them all without a flash. The flash just washed out the beauty of the lighted lanterns.
