I couldn’t help but chuckle at this blurb from New Orleans news sources about cell phone usage while driving:
A new British study shows that drivers who talk on cell phones have slower reaction times than those who are legally drunk. While the practice is common in the New Orleans metro area…
(italics mine) So, are they talking about the practice of driving while talking on their cell phones, or the practice of driving while legally drunk?
It’s official: The Sims is now the best-selling PC game of all time.
So this is Spring. Even though it’s supposed to be Spring, we’ve got nasty sleet and ice outside today, with about an inch of snow of the ground. It’s been cold for most of the past week, meaning I’ve been driving or have been driven into work instead of riding my bike. Part of me is just being wimpy, but when there’s ice on the ground and sleet coming down, not riding my bike is for the best.
Perl Circus is a nice reference for small tips and tricks with using Perl.
Today, I dropped Hong off at the airport so she can attend another conference, this time in Los Angeles. For the next two days, I’ll be a bachelor again! Leaving the toilet seat up, eating American food, all sorts of fun stuff.
Last night, Hong and I went out to Persimmons, a fancy restaurant on the grounds of the Conner Prairie Living History Museum, to celebrate our anniversary. We were the only ones in the restaurant! As our waiter explained, this is the off-season for the museum, so business can get rather slow. Despite the lack of patrons, the food was quite delicious, perhaps the best I’ve had in Indiana to date. It also allowed us to get the best seat in the place, and to act more casually than perhaps we might have acted otherwise.
Another article on sprawl in the Northwest from The Seattle Times. Apparently, 60 percent of growth in the Seattle area between 1986 and 1996 was in “sprawl” areas, i.e., places where walking and public transportation are not a very good option. That’s high compared to neighboring cities Portland (50%) and Vancouver (20%…wow!), but I’m willing to bet still low compared to other cities. I’m willing to bet Indianapolis ranks more than 95% in the same category.
I think the traditional first anniversary is supposed to be a gift of paper, but if that’s the case, what exactly are you supposed to buy? Stationery? Sounds like a pretty meager gift to me.
It’s my anniversary!!! Hong and I were married in the King County Counrthouse exactly one year ago today. Of course, we’ve only been living together for about six months, but, boy, if those six months haven’t felt like a year.
