Taking off for Indianapolis pretty soon. Be gone a week, but this time I’ve got a laptop to take with me. It’s a Pentium 90 with 16 megs of RAM, no powerhouse, but it only cost me $200. I might add some updates to the log while I’m away if I can figure out how to install Linux and get ppp working on it. Ah, the challenges of a Linux install on older hardware!
Amazon.com is prostituting itself with promos for Planet of the Apes with a banner on nearly every page today. However, editors asked that the ad be yanked on the baby product recall page. Looking at the screenshot, I can see why.
There must be something in the lattés here. I’m okay with people bringing their dogs to work, but if they feel like they need to spend $485/month to get daycare for their dog, they’ve got to be out of their mind.
I plan to try to convert this page over to using Java/JSP sometime soon. It certainly won’t be as easy as using Perl/Mason has been, but I’ve been wanting to learn Java and that would probably be the best way how. It might also help our server some as our Apache/mod_perl processes have been known to balloon to 100MB in size, likely due to my use of PerlMagick for uploading photographs.
The pigs are back! However, I’ve only got about a week’s worth of new pictures. I meant to take more yesterday, but my digicam ran low on batteries.
At work, I was recently pulled aside by another group to help out with the Borders.com transition. We’re supposed to be code-complete by Friday, but I didn’t get pulled in until Tuesday. Tuesday and Wednesday, things on the systems weren’t quite working due to external reasons, so I couldn’t get much done. Today, things should be set up, but our main development machine is down, so nobody can get any work done. Code-complete by Friday? I scoff in your general direction!
I just received the news that Hong has gotten her advisor to sign off on her thesis! All her years of hard work have finally paid off! Big congratulations to her!
